FAQ’s
People have many questions as to what a parent carer forum is, what we do, and how we achieve this. We are also regularly asked by potential members if and how they are able to contribute to our efforts to bring about awareness and change. Take a look at some FAQ’s below.
A parent carer forum is an organised group of parents and carers of disabled children from a local area.
Their aim is to make sure that services in their area meet the needs of disabled children and their families.
Parents or carers of a child with any type of additional need or disability are welcome to join us.
Joining does not mean you have to commit lots of time. You might choose to join only to receive information on local issues or to take part in surveys or consultations.
If you want to become more actively involved we will be able to tell you what roles are available.
There are lots of different ways to get involved from completing a survey or attending an event. Everyone is welcome.
There are also roles such as steering group members and parent carer representatives within the forum.
The more people that get involved, the more we can accurately represent what it is like for children, young people and their families.
No. Parent Carer Forums are FREE to join.
You will NOT be charged to be part of the forum.
You will receive a newsletter which shares information about social events where you can share your views and personal experiences of services.
At Rochdale Parent Carers Voice we encourage parental voice to influence change through listening events, discussion groups and working groups.
We gather the views of local families and work with the council, education settings, health providers and other providers to highlight where local services are working well, or challenge when changes or improvements need to be made.
No, as a Community Interest Company we are prohibited from political campaigning. In addition, the funding we receive cannot be used to campaign change.
Campaigning is also not aligned with Rochdale parent Carers Voice ethos to work with services to help them understand the experiences of families and find solution to issues.
We influence change through working together and constructively challenge service providers
We do however acknowledge the important role that campaign groups have in helping to get the voice of parents heard. We are happy to work with campaign groups by feeding back the issues they raise and providing them with further information.
